The Clever Monkey and the Proud Lion

There was once a king lion whose name was Leo, and he resided in a thick forest surrounded by trees and every green thing imaginable. He was famed as the king of the jungle, one who enjoyed the title and had other creatures bowing before him. Leo was a powerful and proud character, with hair that was as golden as fire that seemed to flow in the wind. But at the same time, his overbearing ego overpowered his senses and made him belittle the other inhabitants of the jungle.

One fine morning when Leo was roaming around his silly zone, he saw a small fellow monkey named Momo. Momo was a brilliant man who took chances by using his intelligence to plan his way out whatever situations he found himself in.

LION! LION!” cried Momo, staring at Leo, who loomed over her like a giant. “You are puny and defenseless, but I am told that you are smart. I guess I will test out your cleverness and try to make you do something to entertain me today. ”

They suspected nothing more than Momo finding an opportunity to have fun. ‘Of course, King Leo,’ he answered cheekily and with a smile. “Why do we not have a game? If I am the victor, you must guarantee not to harm any of the small creatures for a week.”

Leo, who believed himself to be so superior, concurred. “Don’t worry, Momo. But if you do fail, you’ll be my dinner.”

Momo nodded, unfazed. He immediately ran towards a big tree from which he quickly climbed up to a high level and said, “King Leo, let see if you can catch me, I will give you a head start.”

Leo, not willing to lose the challenge instantly, followed Momo to continue chasing her around the tree. The little monkey jumped from limb to limb and seemingly teasing Leo, because it could always escaped his catch. This persisted for a while until Leo became increasingly annoyed and exhausted.

When Leo felt that he was tired and that he could not live anymore Momo came up with the following conclusion. He spotted what appeared to be a large basket containing bees hanging from one of the trees. A wicked smirk forming on his face, Momo bicycled past the hive, and pushed down as hard as he could. The hive fell to the ground immediately and a swarm of bees that flew out were very agitated.

“Catch me now, King Leo!” Momo shouted, retreating to safety.

Leo scaringly being attacked by bees, quickly winced and shouted in pains. He attempted to postpone the attack of the bees and drive them away with his hands, but there were many of them. To escape the stings, he dived into a nearby pond since he was very determined to avoid them at all costs.

Momo stood aside and watched quietly, grinning at the sight of all of this. After the bees stopped hovering around the pond, Leo came out of the water all embarrassed and drenched.

“You win this time Momo,” Leo fumed; shaking the water off his mane furiously. “I will not hunt any small animals for the next one week as a signs of honoring my word.”

Momo smiled and bowed. “Thank you, King Leo. Let me tell you this: but the brains is preferable to the brawn.”

So, starting from that day, Leo learned how to appreciate Momo and other smaller animals residing in the jungle. It is said that he got to know that even though he was a giant, he must learn to respect everyone because to lead them, he must understand the people he leads.

And so, the jungle prospered under Leo’s new found element of knowledge, all the animals and animals respected each other. And each time Leo would feel his chest puffing up with pride again, he would turn and visualise the clever little monkey and laugh to himself as he remembered what he had come to understand.
